All the children in years 1-6 have their own homework diary which should travel between home and school daily. The homework diary is used to facilitate communication between home and school and foster independence in the children as it is their responsibility to ensure it is easily accessible by both parents and staff and is kept up to date. A copy of our homework policy can be read via the link below but there is also a hard copy available in the front of the homework diary. it is important that parents read this policy and understand what is expected in terms of homework. It is also really important that children are supported by adults at home with their homework tasks.
Homework tasks are set in a variety of different ways as follows:
- Daily 5 minute tasks which support the learning of spellings and mental maths
- A weekly extended task to support further learning in aspects of English and Maths
- A termly project which allows the children to be creative and explore an area of personal interest
We place a high value on homework and expect pupils and parents/carers to share this committment. Expectations increase as children progress through the school in accordance with their age or stage of development and tasks are differentiated to meet the needs of individuals.
