Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is any form of bullying which takes place online or through smartphones and tablets. Social networking sites, messaging apps and chatrooms on gaming sites such as Roblox, XBox Live and other chat rooms can be great fun and a positive experience, but they can be used as platforms to upset and bully individuals.  There is an age restriction on most sites for this reason.

At Elton, children are taught about how to keep themselves safe online through computing lessons, and are taught in PSHE about establishing appropriate relationships both online and in the real world.  Being bullied online can affect someone enormously. It can impact on a person’s self-esteem, confidence and social skills. Children are taught to consider the impact their words may have and think twice before posting - once it’s out there it can’t be taken back.
